Elon Musk announced that Tesla and SpaceX are actively considering a potential merger, according to BBC News US, the Wall Street Journal, and Axios. Speaking during a call with financial analysts on Tuesday to discuss SpaceX quarterly business results, Musk confirmed that special committees have been established at both companies to examine a deal. He stated that he believes there is merit to merging the two firms. [1][6][7][8]
The potential deal is not finalized and remains subject to several conditions, BBC News US reported. Musk noted that the special committees have not yet reached an agreement on terms, and there is no guarantee that a transaction will occur. Any final merger proposal would also require approval from shareholders of both companies. [1]
Musk serves as the chief executive officer and largest shareholder of both Tesla, an electric vehicle and clean energy firm based in Austin, Texas, and SpaceX. According to Forbes estimates, Musk is the wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of $1.1 trillion as of October 2026. [9][10]
Meanwhile, Congressional Democrats are preparing potential investigations into Musk if they regain control of the United States House of Representatives in the upcoming November elections, according to Politico Congress. Democratic lawmakers have signaled plans to scrutinize his business activities, government involvement, and political donations. [2][3]
