A federal judge questioned the Trump administration on Monday regarding plans to close and overhaul the East Potomac Park golf course next month. The Hill and the Los Angeles Times both report that the hearing took place despite an existing court order that bars future work on the property while a lawsuit against the project continues. [2][7]

NPR reported that the administration intends to convert the historic public golf course into championship links. According to NPR, workers cut down hundreds of trees to clear space for the renovation work in spite of the judge's order. The Independent noted that the judge clashed with the administration legal team during the proceedings over the renovation plans and posts made on Truth Social. [1][6][9]

The hearing occurred shortly after the court rejected a request for the judge to recuse herself from the case. The Hill and Talking Points Memo both reported that the court rejected the recusal request, which the judge characterized as baseless. The Hill added that President Donald Trump published a post on Truth Social just minutes before the Monday hearing began. [2][10]

As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, President Trump previously announced finalized plans to overhaul the East Potomac Golf Links course in collaboration with architect Tom Fazio. The Department of the Interior designed the project, which involves closing the site for 15 months while active legal disputes over the land continue. [14]
