The Justice Department filed notice on Wednesday confirming that President Donald Trump plans to renovate the East Potomac Golf Course in Washington, ABC News and The Independent reported. The federal government confirmed that the park will close starting Nov. 15 for the project. [1][6][8]

According to ABC News, the National Park Service will submit a design rendering created by Tom Fazio to the National Capital Planning Commission for review on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. The plans describe a championship-level golf course. [1]

The United States Department of Justice is an executive department of the federal government that oversees the domestic enforcement of federal laws, and it is headed by the attorney general. As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, President Trump announced plans to overhaul the course alongside designer Tom Fazio, despite active court disputes over the land and a prior court order prohibiting work at the site. [11][13][14]

The announcement comes as the Justice Department handles several other legal actions ahead of the upcoming elections. NPR and Roll Call reported that federal judges are reviewing Justice Department requests regarding state mail-in ballots and voting procedures, while The Hill reported that the department confirmed FBI and ICE agents will not serve as poll monitors.
