Justice Department asks judge to keep Ilhan Omar search warrant sealed
Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to keep the search warrant for Representative Ilhan Omar's home sealed, arguing that releasing it could harm an ongoing investigation.

Federal prosecutors asked a judge on Tuesday to reject a request from more than a dozen news organizations to immediately unseal the search warrant for the Washington, D.C., home of Representative Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat. The Hill, The Washington Post, and the Star Tribune reported that the Justice Department argued that unsealing the document could jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation. MPR News, The New York Times, and the Star Tribune also noted that the department declined to release the warrant. [1][5][6][7][8]
As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed the search warrant at Representative Omar's Washington home as part of a criminal probe. President Donald Trump stated that federal investigators are examining her carefully while denying direct involvement in the raid, whereas Representative Omar characterized the action as political intimidation. [12]
The United States Department of Justice oversees the domestic enforcement of federal laws and is headed by the attorney general, who reports directly to the president. Representative Omar has served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district, which includes Minneapolis, since 2019. She was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. [9][10][11]
The request to keep the warrant sealed comes amid other federal legal actions involving the Justice Department. In separate cases, federal attorneys are suing a Maryland school district over its gender policies and are pursuing claims regarding California voter rolls before a federal judge. [2][3][4]
