United States First Lady Melania Trump has brokered a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to deliver aid and evacuate residents in the front line city of Oleshky.

First Lady Melania Trump has secured a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian occupied front line city of Oleshky, according to statements from the White House reported by People, The Hill, and BBC News. Ukraine and Russia confirmed the agreement, which aims to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and facilitate the evacuation of residents from the city. [1][2][3]

Discrepancies remain regarding the exact timeline for the pause in military action. The Hill cited a White House press release stating the ceasefire would begin on Thursday. BBC News reported that the White House said the truce would start on 29 October, while both Ukrainian and Russian forces confirmed they would stop firing at 02:00 GMT on 27 October. [2][3]

BBC News reported that Oleshky has been without food, medicine, and clean water, forcing some residents to eat garden weeds to survive. Following the agreement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was grateful to the first lady, Courthouse News Service reported. [3][4]

As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, United States President Donald Trump previously announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine earlier in the month, though Russian military strikes on Ukrainian power facilities continued immediately after that announcement. [12][13]
