Representative Robert Garcia, a California Democrat, has called on Alaskan officials to investigate reports alleging that Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola recruited a candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan, Jr. to challenge incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, The Hill reported. The House Oversight Committee panel launched a probe into the claims, according to reports from Axios, Bloomberg, WSMH, and WPBN. [1][6][7][8][9]

The claims center on accusations that Peltola's former campaign manager recruited Daniel J. Sullivan, Jr., a retired school teacher with no political experience, to appear on the ballot to confuse voters, RealClearPolitics and the Washington Examiner reported. President Donald Trump claimed the election was rigged because of the recruitment reports and called for Peltola to be criminally charged and removed from the race, according to the Alaska Beacon and the Washington Examiner. [2][3][4][5]

President Donald Trump also did not rule out having Senate Republicans refuse to seat Peltola if she wins the 2026 election, the Washington Examiner reported. In response to the allegations, Garcia stated that the state of Alaska should do its job, while adding that Republicans and Trump should not be lecturing anyone on a fair election process, according to The Hill. [1][2]

The United States Senate election in Alaska will take place on November 3, 2026, using ranked-choice voting. Incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan is seeking a third term against Peltola, a former Democratic congresswoman. As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, recent autumn polling showed Peltola leading Sullivan in a close midterm race.
