Economists Robert Hall and Michael Woodford were awarded the 2026 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, the Tax Foundation reported. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences selected the pair for their microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation. The award recognizes how individual choices made by households and businesses influence larger economic outcomes. [1]

The Tax Foundation noted that the work of Hall and Woodford helped establish the principles of New Keynesian macroeconomics. Hall also conducted research with Alvin Rabushka on tax policy, demonstrating methods to reduce tax burdens on investments and minimize economic distortions. [1]

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is administered by the Nobel Foundation, according to Wikipedia. Although the United States has not implemented a pure consumption tax, the Tax Foundation stated that the work of Hall continues to inform tax neutrality and growth efforts. [1][4]
