The United States carried out a military attack on an anti-aircraft facility on Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday, the eve of the midterm elections. United States President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday morning that the action was a minor defensive measure and not an act of war, Foreign Policy reported. U.S. officials said the strike followed reports that Iran was preparing missile launches. [1]

The military action occurred as voters went to the polls nationwide on Tuesday. Voting began with polling sites opening in several states, including Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia, according to ABC News Politics. [1][5]

The Hill reported that President Trump also moved to cut off aid to Israel on Election Day. That development followed a warning from Israel to the U.S. regarding an Iranian chemical threat, according to the Tampa Free Press. [3][8]

The United States has historically provided financial and military support to Israel, including weapons shipments and defense systems during the Gaza war. The latest strike on Qeshm Island comes after earlier military actions, including Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, when the U.S. targeted three Iranian nuclear sites. [9][10]
