About 210 million registered voters in the United States will vote on November 3 in midterm elections that will determine the balance of power in Washington. Times Now reported that the vote will decide how much influence President Donald Trump retains during the final two years of his term. Although President Trump is not on the ballot, control of the House of Representatives and the Senate is at stake. [1]
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, according to Times Now. If Democrats gain control of either chamber, they will have the power to block proposed legislation, scrutinize the Trump administration, and make federal decision-making more difficult for the executive branch. [1]
Polling ahead of the election indicates tight contests across key state battlegrounds. Forbes reported that Democrats lead in nearly all key Senate races, while RealClearPolitics noted that key desert contests will test the political influence of Donald Trump. [2][3]
As FTMQ Politics reported earlier, Republicans have sought to maintain their congressional majorities as Democratic candidates showed strength in state polling. Donald Trump and affiliated political action committees have directed tens of millions of dollars into key Senate races. [11]
Midterm elections occur near the midpoint of a president four-year term. During these general elections, voters decide all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and more than 30 seats in the United States Senate. [10]
